Vocal and speech recording

Our isolated booth at Maasstraat 47 is set up for focused takes: an engineer handles levels, take notes and headphone mix while you stay in performance mode.

Vocalist in isolated booth with large condenser microphone and soft light.

Vocal and speech recording at Magyaranzo suits artists who need a clean vocal foundation — pop hooks, rap verses, ad-libs, narration for video or a demo you can hand to a mixer. The booth is about 6 m²; the control room has sight lines so feedback stays short and clear.

We have worked in Amsterdam De Pijp since 2019 with dedicated engineers and 12 mic preamps in the rack. Studio time includes the engineer: €95 per hour or €340 for four hours, all consumer prices including 21% VAT. Preparation tips: guide to preparing for vocals.

How it works

  1. Brief

Share tempo, key, backing track and which sections you want via contact. We confirm time, rate and what to bring; call 020 737 0418 if anything is unclear.

  2. Setup

Microphone choice, pop filter, headphone mix and session markers — ten to twenty minutes before the first take counts.

  3. Record

Full passes, targeted punch-ins and short breaks. Takes are labelled so comping stays fast later.

  4. Wrap

Comping or raw stems, a quick listen in the control room, download link or export to your drive. Internal archive 24 months.

Who books this session

Solo singers finishing a single, rappers with tight 16-bar flows, podcast hosts who want a dry voice track without live-room bleed, and producers who only need lead and stacks — the booth is built for that. Narration for internal video or prototypes fits too, as long as you do not expect a broadcast master in the base rate.

Minimum age 16 for independent bookings; younger artists need a parent or guardian on site by arrangement. Bringing a producer or friend? The building accommodates up to 8 people; the booth usually holds one performer at a time.

Booth acoustics and monitoring

The space is dry enough for editing later but not so dead that your voice disappears. You hear yourself in headphones on a mix we balance together: more click, less low end, maybe a touch of reverb for comfort only — not printed to the recording.

The engineer listens on nearfields; ask to replay any take before moving on. See about us for a quick sense of the rooms, or contact for a walk-through if you have not visited yet.

Microphones and signal path

We rarely start with a single default mic. On a short snippet we often compare two paths — large diaphragm for detail, dynamic if you sing close or carry a lot of top-end energy. Signal runs through our preamps to 24-bit capture; 48 kHz unless your project needs another rate.

Plosives and harsh consonants are managed with distance and angle, not only plugins. Want to tune later yourself? Say so upfront; we can keep a dry take alongside a lightly processed version.

What to bring and when

Deliver backing as WAV or AIFF without a brickwalled master; note BPM and key. Lyrics should be final — rewriting in the booth burns studio time. Send files at least one business day ahead so we can check levels on our monitors.

Bring water, lyrics and your own headphones if you prefer. Skip heavy dairy right before the session if your voice is sensitive. Full checklist: prepare for a vocal session.

Comping, stacks and rap doubles

After full passes we tackle hooks, bridges or rap doubles on separate tracks. Comping — stitching the best lines from several takes — can happen at the end of the session if time allows, or in a follow-up block. We note which take felt strongest emotionally, not only which was technically cleanest.

For stacks we often use a fixed order: lead first, then harmonies layer by layer. That keeps intonation stable and avoids re-running the entire song each time.

Delivery and file formats

Default delivery is WAV stems aligned to the start of your backing, with clear names (Lead, Dub_01, and so on). On request we can also export a session for your DAW or a rough MP3 reference — not a substitute for archive quality.

Download via secure link; your own SSD is welcome. We keep projects 24 months on our systems, then delete unless you extend storage. Request a copy in time if you have no backup.

Mix, mastering and next steps

This service delivers recording material, not a release-ready mix. For balance and space book mixing with us or externally; send unprocessed stems when possible. Mastering is mastering and a separate job.

Revision rounds for mix and mastering follow terms and conditions (2 rounds where applicable). In the booth, small edits within the same booked time are fine — open-ended re-recording days later needs a new block.

FAQ

How long for one song?

For a three- to four-minute pop track with lead and a few doubles, many artists plan two to three hours. Rap with multiple stacks or a tricky hook can need a half day. Send your plan ahead and we will suggest a block.

Can I mix the same day?

Sometimes, if the schedule has space. Mixing is a separate service — see mixing. A follow-up date often works better so you listen with fresh ears.

What if I am ill?

Tell us as early as possible. Cancellation up to 5 days before is free under our terms. Inside that window the deposit may be forfeited or moved to a new date.

Do you provide lyrics or beats?

No — you bring lyrics and instrumental. We help with levels, comping and export. Backing tracks are yours to prepare or commission; we focus on capture.

How fast do you reply?

Usually within 1 business day via contact or email. Include preferred date, duration and genre so we can respond concretely.
